This week is National Know Your Numbers Week, an annual campaign organised by Blood Pressure UK. It urges us to be aware of our blood pressure readings and the complication that can arise if our blood pressure is too high. We see this as a great opportunity to have an NHS Health Check.
Most adults aged between 40 and 74-years-old are entitled to a free health check, as long as they have not had a health check in the past five years or do not have an existing condition (such as stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or kidney disease).
The checks, which are available across the county at participating GP surgeries, pharmacies and community clinics, take around 30 minutes and include a cholesterol test and blood pressure check. They also discuss family history and lifestyle factors.
Find out more by visiting the NHS health check page on this website.
Health checks are confidential and must be booked in advance.
